The next big thing for Apple is a foldable, and while it is taking its time to be unveiled, we are hearing more details on critical aspects of the handset. The iPhone Fold will not just be a complementary device to the iPhone, but a new product altogether, which will have its own use cases stretching beyond the boundaries of a plain smartphone. It is now being reported that the iPhone Fold will feature a dual-lens camera setup at the back.
Apple’s foldable iPhone could struggle to justify its high price despite impressive camera and design upgrades
The most highlighted aspect of the foldable iPhone would be its display, that can bend in half, which automatically means that the camera will not be its primary focus. However, Apple does not like to be left behind in any aspect, and the two cameras that will be part of the device will be equipped with a plethora of features and upgrades we have already come to love on the 'Pro' models. According to prominent industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone Fold will house a dual-lens camera, but he did not share any additional information on the key specifications.
Previously, a highly prolific leaker, Digital Chat Station, claimed on Weibo that the dual-lens cameras on the iPhone Fold will be 48MP each. While the forthcoming 48MP is a welcome addition, it is nothing new or fancy that users should be looking forward to, unless Apple introduces major improvements. The same 48MP cameras are available on the current iPhone 16 lineup as well, and the images derived from the sensors are pretty promising, or portable, to be precise.
However, we should not forget that the company will offer a handful of improvements to the said 48MP sensors this year as well as the next, which means that the quality of images could be far better than it is right now on the current iPhone 16 models. There could be a slight disagreement among customers over the camera specifications, though – does it justify the roughly $2,000 price tag?
Apple will likely keep the important or most premium camera features reserved for the 'Pro' models, which is why we can safely presume that the iPhone Fold or the foldable iPhone will feature a 24mm main camera with an aperture of f/1.78 coupled with the company’s second generation of optical image stabilization. Taking cues from the iPhone 16e, the iPhone Fold could also make use of the camera "Fusion" technology. Since the telephoto lens is out of the question, we suspect bigger changes are coming for the 20th anniversary iPhone. The analyst also shared details on the display resolution of the iPhone Fold, so be sure to check that out as well.
