Apple is heavily invested in bringing AI technology to the iPhone and additional products. We have previously reported that the company is developing and showcasing its AI efforts that revolve around the manipulation and animation of still images. We are now hearing that Apple is also developing AI tools for developers, which will help them write code for different kinds of apps in Xcode. Additionally, the company is also considering bringing AI to its Spotlight Search.
Apple plans to bring AI to Xcode for developers, making it easier for them to write code with prediction and testing capabilities
According to Bloomberg. Apple is working on a new version of the Xcode with AI capabilities, allowing developers to make use of the technology in writing code. If you are a developer, you must have used Microsoft's GitHub Copilot tool, which has the ability to generate code based on natural language commands. Potentially, Apple is going for a similar approach.
The company appears to be following the path of the industry and offering the tools that already exist in the market. However, the end application and execution of the technology could be different. For instance, Apple could offer enhanced image editing tools with the launch of iOS 18 later this year, which will have the ability to not only edit and manipulate an image but also animate it. However, these are mere speculations at this point, as we will see the first glimpse of the technology at the company's annual WWDC event.
As for what the report suggests, Apple's AI integration with Xcode will enable code prediction for developers to allow seamless creation. However, Apple is not only restricting the technology to be used by Xcode developers, as the company plans to release the technology to third-party developers later this year. Other than this, the company also has plans to develop AI technology that can test AI code for apps.
Besides developing AI tools for code generation and prediction, Apple is also looking to enhance its Spotlight Search. If you are not familiar, Spotlight is Apple's search utility which is available on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It allows users to search for anything on the device, even the web and the App Store. The revamped Spotlight Search will be based on the company's large language model. If the company goes ahead with its plans, Spotlight Search will be able to perform more complex tasks, potentially involving third-party applications.
Note that there is no word if the company will introduce the new Spotlight with the release of iOS 18. This is because the company is reportedly 'considering' the feature as part of its race to incorporate AI in various aspects of the platform. We will share more details on Apple's AI efforts soon, so be sure to stick around.
