New MacBook Air models could arrive this week, according to Apple CEO Tim Cook's latest post on X

The arrival of the first MacBook Air in 2008 was initiated when Steve Jobs laid out a teaser for the audience on the projector that read, ‘There’s something in the Air.’ The very same words have now been used by Apple CEO Tim Cook, who shares a teaser on the the micro-blogging social network X, hinting at the arrival of newer models that sport the aforementioned moniker. Given the recent news that is going around at this time, it will not be surprising to learn that the updated versions of the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models sporting the M4 chipset will be announced in the near future.

M4 MacBook Air lineup’s announcement appears more likely as earlier reports indicated that Apple would launch an updated iPad Air lineup a little later

Shortly after the official release of the iPhone 16e, Apple does not appear to be wasting any precious time to push forward with an M4 MacBook Air launch, with the company expected to retain the same design as the M3 models, but on this occasion, we should witness a chipset upgrade. While Tim Cook’s teaser can hint that newer versions of the iPad Air could be announced this week, the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air family appears to be the more likely candidate.

For one thing, we reported yesterday that Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman believed that the unveiling could happen as early as this week. Additionally, these portable Macs offer more utility to users than any other iPad model, with a massive suite of applications taking advantage of the M4 to deliver a buttery-smooth experience. Furthermore, with Apple somewhat nailing the price and base configuration of the current-generation MacBook Pro, the new MacBook Air could entice a multitude of purchases with the same strategy.

Customers can get to experience the same internal specifications while sacrificing some premium features such as the lack of a mini-LED panel that refreshes at up to 120Hz. At this time, the 14-inch M4 MacBook Pro with 16GB unified RAM and a 512GB SSD is listed on Amazon for $1,399, so assuming Apple introduces the M4 MacBook Air models at a starting price of $999, we can bet that it can deliver a massive boost to the company’s sales for this quarter.

Bear in mind that during Apple’s Q1 2025 earnings, Mac sales reached $8.088 billion this quarter, highlighting that the new chipset upgrade, coupled with aggressive pricing can make a ton of a difference.
