It was recently reported that Apple's upcoming iOS 18 will be the company's biggest update for the iPhone. The company is complying with changes and features imposed by the EU under the Digital Markets Act. While these are also major additions, Apple plans to take a step into the AI game with the release of iOS 18. Apple CEO Tim Cook is excited about AI, and the company has invested heavily in the field over the past year or so. During the company's earnings call, Tim Cook shared his remarks on AI and its arrival on iPhone later this year.

Apple is working on a wide range of features for the iPhone which will involve AI. According to prior reports, Apple will implement AI in its Messages, Notes, Siri, and other parts of the operating system. However, Siri is expected to receive one of the most significant updates, allowing it to better compete against Google Assistant. Tim Cook states that the company has spent a 'tremendous amount of time and effort' on AI.
"As we look ahead, we will continue to invest in these and other technologies that will shape the future. That includes artificial intelligence, where we continue to spend a tremendous amount of time and effort and we're excited to share the details of our ongoing work in that space later this year."
The executive states that Apple will debut AI features later this year. While the iOS 18 release is scheduled for September, the company will announce the platform and the AI features at its WWDC 2024 event. The event is expected to take place in June, when the company will announce iOS 18 alongside its next-gen updates for the Apple Watch, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and the new Vision Pro headset.
While Cook did not share the details on the features and how Apple will implement them, we suspect AI will be implemented throughout the platform. For instance, the company could offer generative AI features in its Photos app for editing purposes. Generative AI could also be used in the Messages app for auto-completion of sentences. Apple Music and Xcode could also use the technology for their respective use cases.
OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Bard are advancing their algorithms for AI and how the technology can be used. Apple lags behind as it failed to announce any new AI feature last year with the release of iOS 17. The company is currently focusing on the Vision Pro headset, which will launch today. We will keep you guys updated with the latest, so be sure to stick around.
