All iPhone 17 models to reportedly feature LTPO OLED technology in 2025

The iPhone 16 has been predicted to be a disappointing update over the iPhone 15 series. The lack of compelling features can mean that Apple will suffer up to a 15 percent shipments decline this year due to a lack of differentiation between the two lineups. To help remedy this, a new report states that Apple is eyeing a shift in its strategy, and that will start with bringing LTPO OLED technology to the entire iPhone 17 family in 2025. Currently, this display is exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which is what gives both flagships access to ProMotion support, enabling that buttery-smooth high refresh rate option.

The entire iPhone 17 to feature LTPO OLED technology as Apple is reportedly prioritizing higher sales; will switch to advanced displays even if supplier BOE cannot fulfill orders

Even though it is speculated that Apple will retain LTPS panels for the less expensive iPhone 17 models, The Elec reports that the entire series will be treated to the more advanced displays, giving the four models access to a high refresh rate screen. It remains to be seen who Apple will add as a third LTPO OLED supplier, as it already enlists the services of Samsung and LG. However, adding a third member can help the technology giant obtain better pricing leverage when procuring display shipments.

BOE has been reported to be a potential partner since the Chinese manufacturer also provides LTPO OLED panels to its local clientele, such as Huawei. Assuming BOE fails to impress Apple when it comes to quality, the California-based giant is still expected to switch to the high refresh rate panels for the iPhone 17, according to an unnamed industry official.

“Because the product change between last year's iPhone 15 and this year's iPhone 16 series is small, the iPhone 17 series needs to differentiate itself by applying LTPO to the lower lineup.. If BOE lacks LTPO technology, Apple will sell the iPhone 17 series without BOE. LTPO will be applied to all four types.”

BOE was earlier said to be competing with Samsung to acquire iPhone SE 4 panel orders, with the low-cost model expected to launch sometime in 2025. This might be an opportune time for the company to impress Apple in its ability not just to provide an ample quantity of screens but quality-enriched ones too. Either way, with the iPhone 16 range not looking too attractive, according to previous reports, Apple will have to make key decisions that will help prop up iPhone shipments in 2025.
