Apple interested in gathering billions of photos and videos data for AI training

Apple is gradually expanding its AI efforts to secure a spot in the market, as it is already pretty late in the industry compared to Google and OpenAI. However, the company has made various major breakthroughs in the past few months when it comes to its large language models, and the company is not looking to back down despite its late entry. According to the latest, Apple is seeking an agreement with various platforms with a vast library of licensed images to train its AI models.

After Shutterstock, Apple might turn its head to Photobucket for licensed images and videos for AI model training

Apple's AI efforts could transform how we use the iPhone and other Apple products, with Siri expected to be the center of attention for many. It was previously reported that the company has developed an AI model that can edit, manipulate, and even animate images based on natural language commands. If you are not familiar with it, users can simply enter their command to make changes to an image, and the AI model will respond with results derived through understanding the natural language context.

The company is now planning to train its AI models with additional data to draw precise results with minimal errors. The larger the data set will be, the easier it will be for the AI model to understand images and then make changes accordingly. We have previously heard that the company has already reached an agreement with Shutterstock to license millions of images that will not have an impact on the content's copyrights. Apple paid between $20 million to $50 million to Shutterstock for its library of images, and the company is further looking to expand its data with another agreement.

Reuters reports that after Shutterstock, Apple and other tech giants with AI prospects are interested in Photobucket and its 13 billion photos and videos. The data will be fed to the company's AI models for better results, and it appears that Apple is heavily involved with companies that hoard licensed images and videos. Apple's partnership with the aforementioned companies will potentially speed up its development process for future features coming with the release of iOS 18.

iOS 18 is expected to be the biggest update the iPhone has ever received, and AI has a lot to do with it, as the company is planning to incorporate the technology on a system level. We have previously heard that the company is training Siri and Spotlight Search using its large language models for better contextual understanding, allowing the digital assistant to become as responsive and understanding as ChatGPT and Google Gemini.
