A week after Google rolled out its Android 15 Beta 2, Beta 2.1 was rolled out the following week with a small fix. Now, as the month has just started, the company is bringing a new beta update. Beta 2.2 is not the same as the Beta 3 update coming at the end of this month, which would be an overall update, but it sure brings some solutions to recurring problems ever since it was first launched.
With Android Beta 2.2, Google brings major improvements to the private space, app drawer, and NFC payments.
Beta 2.2 sets itself apart from Beta 2.1 for the comprehensive mends to some bugs, as the previous update was focused on a specific privacy space feature. Google has been trying to fix the hiccups ever since the beta was first dropped. To deal with this better, Beta 2.2 was rolled out with many major improvements for the Pixel devices. The private space is now fully functional, and the issues related to NFC and wallet were simultaneously dealt with.
The new update of Android 15 comes with the AP31.240426.023 Build and is going to be available for:
- Pixel 6 and 6 Pro
- Pixel 6a
- Pixel 7 and 7 Pro
- Pixel 7a
- Pixel Fold
- Pixel Tablet
- Pixel 8 and 8 Pro
- Pixel 8a
The over-the-air OTA files and factory images have already been flashed by Google, but if you can wait, you can access the OTA on your phone. If you are still considering enrolling for the beta, you can use this as the first stable test of Android 15. Beta 3 will be coming by the end of June, and if that does not seem far-fetched, you could hold up for a while.
In contrast to the initial patch, this expansive update weighs 58MB, while the previous update was merely 12.12 MB. The new version fixed an issue with the Private Space removing apps when being used for the first time.
Even though the impact of the 2.2 update is widespread, it is normal for bugs to arise occasionally during the release. Keep in mind that the stability of the current Android 14 builds remains unmatched. The current patch, however, will make your life a whole lot better if you have Android Preview for your Pixel.
This patch resolves some issues, including the wallet's role in terms of NFC payment functionality, fixing the NFC observe mode, removing videos with a green tint that used 10-bit HDR, and fixing issues with system stability and better connectivity. The OTA update will be available shortly for those enrolled in the Pixel Beta program. If you are growing impatient, you can manually update right away.
