Recently launched Threadripper 9000 series processors have started getting benchmarked in various applications, and now it's the Threadripper Pro 9995WX, which scored over 30,000 points in Geekbench.
Threadripper Pro 9995WX Scores a Good 30,170 Points in Multi-Threaded Test at Geekbench; Listed for Over $12,000
AMD Threadripper processors have been at the top of the charts when it comes to multi-threaded CPU performance. The Threadripper Pro series is particularly more dominant in this area as its flagship chips usually offer the highest core count, which helps them in achieving higher multi-core scores. Even though the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 7995WX is the fastest Zen 4-based workstation processor, the current world-record holder at Geekbench is Intel Core i7 13700K with 33,962 points, followed by other high-end Intel processors.
Geekbench usually favor Intel CPUs in multi-threaded tests but this doesn't mean they are faster in multi-threaded operations than higher-core count Threadripper CPUs. Nonetheless, we can still see the Threadripper 7000 series being among the top performers at Geekbench. However, the recently launched Threadripper 9000 series, aka Shimada Peak, has just appeared in the charts, competing against its predecessors. It's the Threadripper Pro 9995WX, which scored 30,170 points in the Geekbench multi-threaded test, challenging the Threadripper Pro 7995WX.
The latter has 30,579 as the best score on the charts but it can be lower as there are multiple results on the website. The Threadripper Pro 9995WX might seem equivalent to the predecessor on the charts but it is theoretically faster. The 9995WX brings 96 cores and 192 threads to the table, and even though this is the same core/thread configuration you find on the 7995WX, the latest Zen 5 architecture and higher clock speeds help improve the 9995WX in performance. Threadripper Pro 9995WX offers a 300 MHz higher boost clock than its predecessor, but it works at the same 350W TDP. The single-core score is still lackluster, but with more tests, we can expect it to improve.
We recently saw Ryzen Threadripper 9980X beat the Threadripper Pro 7995WX in PassMark, achieving the best score ever. This shows that Shimada Peak's dominance in the workstation segment and while Geekbench score isn't the best, one should keep in mind that the scores usually vary greatly on the platform. Right now the Threadripper Pro 9000 WX series is available for the enterprise market and the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 9995WX has just been listed on Pro Vantage for $12,793, which seems a bit high compared to the $9,999 price tag of the predecessor. We believe this should come down to around $10K as well but it might take some time.
