AMD's Ryzen 7 9700X "Zen 5" Desktop CPU featuring 8 cores has been leaked and features strong single-core performance.

AMD Ryzen 7 9700X 8-Core "Zen 5" Desktop CPU Leaks Out, Almost Touches 5.6 GHz With PBO Enabled

The AMD Ryzen 7 9700X "100-000001404" is designed for mainstream audiences & features an 8-core CPU with 16 threads, a base clock of 3.8 GHz, a boost clock of up to 5.5 GHz, 40 MB of cache (1 CCD with 32 MB L3 + 8 MB L2), and a low TDP of 65W which is also much lower than the 105W TDP featured on its predecessor, the Ryzen 7 7700X.

The Ryzen 7 7700X has a 105W part while the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X has a 65W part which is almost half its TDP and that means that the clocks do take a slight bit of hit with the base clock being -700 MHz lower but the boost clock is rated at +100 MHz. For the 65W SKUs, AMD recommends using a premium air cooler for optimal performance but even with such a low TDP, AMD is making sure that enthusiasts don't miss out on the OC and tuning features as the Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5 chips come with all the goodies as the higher-end Ryzen 9 SKUs based on the Zen 5 core architecture.

As you can see in the log above, the CPU was running at up to 5570 MHz or 5.6 GHz which is around 100 MHz faster than its officially listed boost clock of 5500 MHz. This would suggest that the chip was running with PBO enabled, allowing for faster performance than what is possible at the default spec.

Coming to the performance tests, the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X 8-Core Desktop CPU has also been tested on the ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E HERO motherboard just like yesterday's Ryzen 9 9900X leak. The platform was running 32 GB of DDR5-6000 memory which is the sweet-spot "1:1: config for the Ryzen 9000 "Zen 5" CPUs. The chip was tested in the Geekbench benchmark.

In terms of performance, the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X CPU scored 3312 points in the single-core and 16,431 points in the multi-core tests. Once again, this is some stunning performance in the single-core tests where the chip outperforms the Intel Core i9-14900KS 6.2 GHz chip by 4% and sits at 14% faster than its predecessor, the Ryzen 7 7700X.

When it comes to multi-core scores, the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X 8-Core CPU delivers an 8% gain over its predecessor. The score is about the same as the Core i7-14700 and Ryzen 9 7900 which are 65W TDP configured SKUs and the Ryzen 7 9700X is also expected to feature the same TDP unless the red team is going with a higher 120W TDP which we reported earlier. The CPU doesn't come close to the Core i7-14700K which should be its competitor but it looks like it's turning out to be more of a Core i5-14600K competitor in the multi-threaded workloads.

For an 8-core CPU, this is a very strong result, especially the single-core performance which should lead to some nice performance uplifts in games. Once again, the AMD Ryzen 9000 "Zen 5" Desktop CPUs including the Ryzen 7 9700X 8-Core hit retail shelves later this month on the AM5 platform so stay tuned for some action.
