AMD unveils the octa-core Ryzen 9800X3D CPU, based on the Zen 5 architecture. The processor brings an additional 64 MB L3 cache and is scheduled for release on 7th November.
AMD shows off Ryzen 7 9800X3D, reveals gaming performance boost of up to 59% compared to Intel Core Ultra 9 285K
AMD has officially revealed its upcoming Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU in a recently uploaded video to the AMD Gaming YouTube channel. The company has revealed its specifications, gaming performance, and official release date, which coincides with our previous reports.
AMD's SVP and General Manager at Compute & Graphics Group, Jack Huynh said,
I am thrilled to announce the new Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor. We spent years perfecting the development of the next generation 3D V-Cache. This technology is the result of pushing the limits of engineering and is a tribute to the gamers' pursuit of perfection.

AMD shows off the die design of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which we reported a few days ago, showing you the delidded Ryzen 9800X3D processor. The processor brings three types of silicon: one Compute, one I/O, and one CCD die, all integrated to operate together to offer a high-performance gaming package.
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D brings 8 cores based on Zen 5 architecture and 16 threads with a base clock speed of 4.7 GHz and up to 5.2 GHz in max boost mode. A total of 104 MB cache is available on the processor, 96 MB of which is L3 cache and the rest is L1+L2. The CCD brings 32 MB of L3 cache of its own while another 64 MB 3D cache chiplet is added underneath the CCD, bringing the total L3 cache size to 96 MB.
As per AMD's claims the Ryzen 9800X3D is up to 26% faster in gaming performance than its predecessor, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. In a total of 40 games, the comparison results in an approximately 8% performance uplift over the 7800X3D, making the Ryzen 9800X3D the current gaming champ.
Compared to the flagship Core Ultra 9 285K from Intel's Arrow Lake lineup, the Ryzen 9800X3D is up to 59% faster in games like Cyberpunk 2077. Other modern titles such as Hogwarts Legacy and CS2 see over 25% higher performance while games like Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, COD: Black Ops 6, and Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail see over 40% performance boost. Across a total of 40+ games, the 9800X3D comes out to be around 20% faster than the 285K, making it a solid choice for an enthusiast gaming experience.
AMD says that it is working with game developers to deliver optimized performance on its X3D chips and has collaborated with Saber Interactive and Activision to achieve the best possible performance in the latest titles like Warhammer 40,000: Space Marin 2 and Call of Duty.
The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is scheduled to launch officially on 7th November worldwide at $479.
