AMD's reference Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU isn't any mystery and one such model has once again been pictured, disassembled & tested.

AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT OEM "Reference" GPU Is Being Sold In China For Over $700 US, Comes With 2.5-Slot & Triple-Fan Design

Although AMD never pushed its reference model "MBA" out into the retail segment, the RX 9070 XT & RX 9070 "MBA" variants are being shipped with OEM PCs and some retailers are acquiring the cards and selling them out through third-party retail sites.

One such variant has once again been spotted at Goofish, which has an asking price of 5499 RMB or $748 US. This pricing is close to the Chinese MSRP of 4999 RMB, which converts to $680 US. This is higher than the US MSRP owing to regional taxes and also the fact that these cards are facing hiked-up prices due to lower inventories.

Talking about the reference model, it ships with a 2.5-slot design which is fitted with a black-colored shroud and an extended backplate. The backplate has a large cut-out to dissipate the air that is produced by the third fan on this triple-fan cooling solution. The MBA "Made by AMD" design looks nice with large Radeon logos on the sides and back. Power is provided through dual 8-pin connectors and display outputs include 1 HDMI and three DP ports.

Underneath the reference, the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU is a large aluminum-finned heatsink that comes in two blocks, fitted with 8 massive copper heat pipes. The PCB is also a reference affair with 14 phases in total. Eight GDDR6 VRAM spots utilize Samsung ICs and the GPU can be seen in the middle. The GPU utilizes Honeywell PTM7950 TIM and the PCB ID is "109-G295A7-00D_03".

The user tested the reference AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU under various synthetic benchmarks to check the temperatures on the card. Under Furmark, the maximum GPU temperatures hit 62C with the HotSpot temperatures reaching 84C and the memory temperatures hitting 88C.

The user replaced the reference TIM with a thermal grease sheet which didn't change the core temperatures much but reduced the memory temperatures by 6C (82C). There are excessive reports of memory temperatures being high on a few custom designs of the RX 9070 series cards, & it looks like users might have to manually replace the thermal pads to get lower temperatures.

Overall, the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT reference GPU design looks great, but it is not sold anywhere in the States or EU, which is a bummer. On a positive note, users have many custom variants of the card to choose from.
