It appears that the price tag is quite high compared to what it brings to the table, and people are not happy.
Radeon RX 9070 GRE Launch Price Tag of $549 Fails as No One Buys the GPU at This Price in Germany, Reveals Mindfactory Stats
We weren't expecting the Radeon RX 9070 GRE to see huge sales, given its high price point that made it unappealing. However, considering the current high RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT prices, we expected some sales for the RX 9070 GRE. It looks like, despite launching at a price lower than the Radeon RX 9070 according to current market prices, the RX 9070 GRE failed to appease gamers.
Several RX 9070 GRE editions sit idle on the shelves of one of the major German retailers, Mindfactory. As reported by 3D Center, the retailer sold few to no RX 9070 GRE units on day 1. The number of GPUs sold is usually indicated by the numbers listed under the listing at Mindfactory, but the current listings show no sold units. We currently have around seven different RX 9070 GRE editions at the retailer, but all are in stock and sitting idle.
The starting price of the Radeon RX 9070 GRE in Germany is 559 Euros and can go all the way to 599 Euros. For the same price, users can buy the faster Radeon RX 9070 GPU, which also offers a better memory configuration through a wider memory interface, more memory, and higher bandwidth. This is likely why nobody is interested in buying the Radeon RX 9070 GRE.
We will continue to track the sales and prices for the GPU, but it appears that unless AMD slashes some dollars off the GPU, nobody is going to take it seriously. With just 12 GB VRAM and a cut-down NAVI 48 die, the RX 9070 GRE has been positioned against the RTX 5060 Ti by AMD instead of the GeForce RTX 5070. This already shows that the GPU doesn't belong in the mid-range category. Maybe if the GPU starts selling for $500/500 Euros or lower, it can sell well.
