AMD's Radeon RX 9070 GPUs have appeared for the first time ever on Steam's Hardware Survey but lag behind NVIDIA's RTX 50 series.

Steam has just published its latest Hardware Survey statistics, marking the beginning of 2026. As per the latest numbers, NVIDIA's Blackwell GPUs continue to gain market share while the green team's "60-class" GPUs remain the most popular.

As of right now, the top five GPUs used by gamers on Steam are the RTX 3060, RTX 4060 Laptop, RTX 4060, RTX 3050, and the GTX 1650. These five GPUs alone amount of 27% of the share on Steam.

The NVIDIA RTX 5070 is currently the most popular Blackwell GPU on Steam with a share of 3.05%, followed by the RTX 5060 at 2.21%, RTX 5070 Ti at 1.94%, RTX 5060 Ti at 1.74%, RTX 5080 at 1.68%, RTX 5060 Laptop at 1.14%, RTX 5090 at 0.60%, and the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop at 0.36%. GPUs such as the RTX 5050 and the majority of the RTX 50 Laptop models are missing, but still, the RTX 50 family amounts to 12.72% of the share.

The new year also marks the first appearance of the AMD RDNA 4-based Radeon RX 9070 GPUs on Steam. Throughout 2025, none of AMD's RX 9000 GPUs showed up on Steam, but in December of 2025, AMD's Radeon RX 9070 series had popped up with a 0.22% share.

This is behind the lowest Blackwell share for the RTX 5070 Ti laptop and even falls behind the flagship RTX 5090 from NVIDIA, which has a 0.60% share. There are other undisclosed Radeon Graphics with a cumulative share of 6.18%, and the highest share for a named AMD GPU belongs to the RX 7800 XT (1.57%).

In terms of CPU share, AMD has gained some big numbers with a 47.27% share on Steam, while Intel's share has declined to 55.47%. These numbers are fast approaching the 50-50 split, which should put a lot more pressure on Intel as gamers go for AMD's Ryzen offerings as their current choice. 8, 6, and 12 core CPUs have seen the biggest share gains.

Lastly, in terms of resolution, it looks like 1080p remained the most popular choice with a 53.68% share, but 1440p is gaining momentum, and we are also seeing a good influx of shares for 2160p. 1440p holds a 21.77% share while 4K holds a 5.47% share. UWQHD (3440x1440) has also seen slight gain to 3.65%, but it looks like more gamers want higher refresh rates on a 1440p or 1080p screen, while 4K requires more GPU horsepower, and with pricing of high-end GPUs now getting out of reach for the majority of gamers and mainstream GPUs not giving users a much needed VRAM upgrade, most will stick to 1080p & 1440p resolutions.

Furthermore, QD-OLED and OLED 4K monitors are amazing displays for gaming, but they also cost a lot more. So it looks like once those come down in prices, and higher VRAM (mainstream) GPUs hit the shelves, more gamers will move towards better displays with higher resolution capabilities.
