Microsoft Advanced Shader Delivery technology support has now landed on more AMD Radeon GPUs based on the RDNA 3 architecture.
Lower Load Times & Less Stutters Made Possible On AMD Radeon RX 7000, RX 8000, RX 9000 GPUs With Microsoft's Expanded Advanced Shader Delivery Tech Support
Last year, Microsoft announced its DirectX "Advanced Shader Delivery" technology, which is meant to deliver precompiled shaders when supported games are being downloaded.
With precompiled shaders, users do not have to wait extra time for shaders to compile, leading to faster load times, and when playing games, you will also benefit from less stuttering. The technology was co-developed by Xbox & AMD, and is currently supported by all three GPU vendors, including NVIDIA, AMD, & Intel.
Today, Microsoft announced that it is expanding the Public Preview of "Advanced Shader Delivery". So now, more AMD Radeon GPUs will have access to precompiled shaders through the latest Adrenalin 26.5.2 driver. The new supported hardware includes the RDNA 3, RDNA 3.5, and RDNA 4 architectures, which include RX 7000, Radeon 700M, RX 8000, Radeon 800M, and Radeon RX 9000 GPUs. The following are the official requirements to enable the technology:
- OS: Windows 11 24H2 or higher
- Xbox Gaming Services: 37.113.11003.0 or higher (Microsoft Store > Library > Update Gaming Services)
- Xbox Insider Hub: Open Xbox Insider Hub > Select Previews > PC Gaming Preview
- GPU: AMD RDNA 3, RDNA 3.5, RDNA 4 architectures
- Driver: Adrenalin 26.5.2 or higher (Adds New Game support: Forza Horizon 6 & 007 First Light)
Users can take advantage of Microsoft's Advanced Shader Delivery technology on AMD's Radeon GPUs right away with the release of Forza Horizon 6. A system with the Radeon RX 7600 GPU and a Ryzen 7 5800 CPU was able to load the game in just 4 seconds, versus 1.5 minutes before Advanced Shader Delivery was applied. This is a 95% reduction in load times, and not only that, but ASD also resulted in lower stuttering, offering a silky smooth gameplay experience.
Today marks the release of Forza Horizon 6. With advanced shader delivery, Forza Horizon 6 loads in 4 seconds, as compared to almost 1.5 minutes – that’s an overall 95% time savings! This measurement was taken on an AMD Radeon RX 7600 GPU and an AMD Ryzen ™ 7 5800 8-Core processor CPU. ASD also reduces shader stutter when playing the title by circumventing just in time compilation of shaders during gameplay.
Forza Horizon 6 is a great title available in the Xbox PC app that showcases the benefits of ASD, loading instantly and with no shader stutter!
Microsoft
Microsoft is already offering full support to developers to integrate Advanced Shader Delivery within their games through the latest Agility SDK. Microsoft also stated that the ASD will be coming to more Windows devices and other IHV hardware in the coming months.
