AMD's Radeon GPU price increase has been detailed, and it looks like gamers will end up paying a lot more for higher VRAM models.
Higher VRAM Radeon GPUs To See Up To $40 Price Increase, 8 GB AMD GPUs Up To $20 Expensive
A few days ago, it was reported that AMD was planning to increase GPU prices by 10%. According to the latest report from Chinese Board Channels, we now have more details on the upcoming AMD Radeon GPU price hikes. Once again, the main reason for this price hike is due to memory shortages, as demand from the AI sector has swelled to such an extent that all DRAM suppliers have bumped up their prices. This leaves GPU makers such as AMD and NVIDIA with little to no choice but to notify their partners of a price increase.
Regarding AMD graphics cards, multiple brands have officially notified their channels to stock up. The estimated price increase for the first wave is $20 for the 8GB version and $40 for the 16GB version.
It is expected that the price of graphics cards with 16GB of video memory will increase by about 600 yuan within the year, while the price of 8GB versions will increase by about 300 yuan. At the same time, no new products will be launched throughout 2027.
It is stated that AMD AICs will face higher GPU procurement costs in the near future since both chipmakers bundle memory with their GPUs. NVIDIA has already opted out of this bundle, as per recent reports, which means that partners would have to source memory directly from DRAM makers who are selling it at a high rate.
- 2026 Phase 1 For 8 GB GPUs = +$20 US Price Increase
- 2026 Phase 1 for 16 GB GPUs = +$40 US Price Increase
- 2026 Phase 2 for 8 GB GPUs = 300 RMB ($40 US) Price Increase?
- 2026 Phase 2 for 16 GB GPUs = 600 RMB ($85 US) Price Increase?
Both AMD and NVIDIA are expected to implement the price increase in various phases throughout 2026, starting as early as this month or January 2026.
As for AMD, it is claimed that AMD will be raising the prices based on the VRAM amount offered on each of its GPU lineups. The estimated price increase in the first wave is going to be a $20 bump for 8 GB GPUs and a $40 bump for 16 GB GPUs. But things don't end here.
Throughout 2026, AMD and its partners will be further hiking up the prices, with 16 GB GPU prices going as high as 600 RMB or $85 US, while 8 GB GPU prices will see a 300 RMB price hike or $40-$45 US. This price bump is going to be massive, especially for entry-level GPUs such as the RX 9060 XT 16 GB, and even the competition. If Intel and NVIDIA end up doing a similar price hike, we can see mainstream models such as the Arc B580 12 GB, Arc B570 10 GB, and RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB, all end up being less impressive in terms of $ value.
An interesting thing that is stated by the source is that AMD has planned no new product launches till 2027, and the rising memory costs and shortages are to be blamed. Similar things are also being said about NVIDIA's own RTX 50 SUPER refresh. So yeah, higher prices for gamers around the world, and we can all blame the rising AI boom for that, as companies go for profitability over their loyal customers.
Once again, neither AMD nor any chipmaker is to blame for this; the DRAM suppliers are the main reason this situation has arisen, and there's no end to it. We have a more detailed report on the DRAM crisis coming soon, which will paint an even bleaker picture of this whole scenario.
All gamers can do is to boycott this whole pricing situation; unfortunately, that would bear little to no fruit, as the companies will continue to ride the AI craze. AMD is also rumored to increase CPU prices tonight.
