First Drivers For AMD Radeon 700M "RDNA 3" iGPUs Featured On Phoenix APUs Coming Later This Month
The AMD Ryzen 7040 "Phoenix" APUs were announced in January 2023 at CES but arrived in the mainstream market in June after months of delay. The APU lineup is featured in a vast array of devices such as laptops, Mini PCs, and handhelds. They are really solid chips with lots of CPU & GPU power on a single yet efficient package and while there's huge demand, AMD is still lacking when it comes to the driver front.
Now that the first AMD Phoenix APU-powered laptops are rolling out, AMD failed to deliver the processor's official graphics drivers. It's already been a month since we last reported our story on how the Radeon 700M "RDNA 3" iGPU drivers were missing and users are yet to receive any official support. However, the mini-PC manufacturer, Beelink, has disclosed that AMD will release drivers for the APU by the end of this month so as early as next week.
The manufacturer states that AMD had initially planned to release the drivers by 20th July but it got delayed again due to software compatibility issues. AMD has reportedly resolved the issues and is set to release the drivers by the end of this month. Following is the full statement by Beelink:
AMD originally planned to release a new driver on the 20th of this month to solve it. Now AMD has notified that the new driver is expected to be released until the end of July. I believe AMD will definitely solve the driver and software compatibility problem, and it will take a little more time. At that time, the new driver will be released in time at zero moment for everyone to download and install.
Beelink is one of the many manufacturers who is making Mini PCs based on the AMD Ryzen 7040 "Phoenix" APUs. The recently announced GTR7 is a very capable machine and as a kind gesture, the company is providing an extended "no-reason" return period till the 31st of July if users don't see the graphics performance optimal due to unavailability of the official drivers or if AMD misses the scheduled once again.
The AMD Radeon 700M "RDNA 3" iGPU is one of the best parts of these new APUs with loads of performance for an integrated chip that can run AAA titles at 1080p with decent quality and even extend performance using upscaling techniques such as FSR 3. We can expect a further increase in the performance that we have seen so far once AMD is able to roll out the official drivers.
