Every year, AMD comes up with more and more AM4 processors, despite the platform being 8 years old. This time, it has introduced the most affordable X3D processor yet.
AMD Silently Launches Ryzen 5 5500X3D: Slightly Downgraded From 5600X3D with 3GHz as its Base Clock
AMD's AM4 platform has one of the longest lifespans when it comes to the mainstream market. Even after 8 years of life, the AM4 platform continues to grab a good chunk of share in the market. This is mostly due to the presence of the Ryzen 5000 series, which is based on the Zen 3 architecture, particularly as the 5000 series is the first one to get an X3D lineup.
The Ryzen 5000X3D has about three SKUs: Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Ryzen 7 5700X3D, and Ryzen 5 5600X3D, but AMD has silently launched another variant called Ryzen 5 "5500X3D" recently. AMD didn't announce it publicly, but the processor page is live on the official website along with detailed specifications.

It's basically a 5600X3D with slower clock speeds. It boasts a 6-core and 12-thread configuration, which runs at a 3 GHz base clock and up to 4 GHz in boost mode. The 5600X3D, on the other hand, boasts 3.3 GHz and 4.4 GHz as base and boost clocks, respectively, and the non-X3D Ryzen 5 5500 boasts an even higher base clock of 3.6 GHz. We know that the clock speeds of earlier X3D processors are lower than their non-X3D counterparts due to the unusual die stacking, and therefore, the 5500X3D naturally boasts slower clocks.

However, the L3 cache will be a full 96 MB, which is equal to other 5000X3D processors. Considering the Ryzen 5 5500 is one of the slowest 5000 series processors with just 16 MB of L3 cache, the 5500X3D will be delivering a significant uplift in select workloads like gaming. But this comes at a higher power consumption as the 5500X3D is rated at 105W while the Ryzen 5500 is rated at 65W.
Nonetheless, the Ryzen 5 5500X3D is going to be an excellent choice for budget gaming builds, but as of now, availability is limited to Latin America. Also, the pricing is yet to be revealed, and we expect around $150 price tag for this chip. With AMD releasing newer AM4 processors sporadically, it feels like AMD isn't yet done with the AM4 platform.
