It's just the starting and it looks like there will be more such reports in the near future. Several users are now reporting getting scammed after they bought DDR5 RAM kits.

Amazon Sends Corsair LPX DDR4 Instead of DDR5 RAM Kit to Redditor; RAM Scams are Now More Frequent

As DDR5 RAM becomes more difficult to purchase due to poor availability and higher costs, reports of DDR5 RAM scams are surfacing online more frequently. We recently reported on a Redditor who got DDR4 RAM sticks inside a DDR5 casing, and the latest scam appears somewhat similar. However, this time, it was clear that someone didn't even take the time to replace the heatsink casing outside the RAM sticks.

Redditor u/Hen0891 reported that he bought a Corsair DDR5 2x 16 GB RAM kit from Amazon for his second PC, but he instead found a 2x 16 GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance LPX memory inside. It's unknown whether the box was tampered with before it reached the user, but regardless, such hardware scams have happened previously, even when the boxes were sealed.

It's a serious concern since it has apparently become common to replace the hardware inside the box. While Amazon offers a return/replacement policy for such instances, users may have to spend more than they paid initially since RAM prices are increasing almost every day. Interestingly, in the same thread, we saw a user commenting about a similar issue.

He says that he, too, ordered a DDR4 RAM from Amazon, but he instead got a "single hair elastic". Since he recorded opening the package, he got his refund. That said, we have been witnessing a lot of hardware scams on Amazon for a while now, and a lot of users are now avoiding buying expensive PC hardware from the retailer.
