In various parts of the world, we are seeing a dramatic shift to the older AM4 platform as the DDR5 RAM prices continue to soar.
AM4 CPUs Near 34% Market Share at Mindfactory — Claim Four Spots in Amazon US Top 10 Best Sellers List As Well
Due to the rise in the cost of PC building using DDR5 RAM, a lot of users are now going back to the older DDR4 platform. We could see this coming since it's expected that the DDR5 RAM pricing and availability won't stabilize any time soon. While the AM4 platform was still doing great despite being much older now, it's now climbing so fast that it could potentially take AM5's place as the best seller.
We have been keeping an eye on major retailers, and we just saw a drastic shift in the CPU sales on some popular retailers. In Germany, popular retailer Mindfactory is now selling nearly one in three CPUs from AMD’s AM4-compatible lineup. Compared to the sales stats just two weeks ago, we can see a sharp rise in AM4 CPU sales, which accounted for around 24% of the total units shipped at that time, but now it's nearly 34%. Such a jump isn't normal, but it was imminent since DDR5 RAM prices have tripled and quadrupled in most places.
AM5 CPUs, which accounted for around 70% of total shipments two weeks ago, have fallen below 60%. In the top 10 best-selling CPUs at Mindfactory, there are now three Ryzen 5000 CPUs, but in the top 20, there are nine. Not surprisingly, this is what we see in other regions, and as per the latest Top 10 Best-selling CPUs list on Amazon US, four are from the AM4 platform. Here also, we see nine AM4 CPUs in the top 20 best sellers, and they continue to pop up in every row.
Ryzen 7 5800XT is the best-selling CPU on Amazon US, and surprisingly, the Ryzen 5 3600 has also made an entry in the top 10 at the 6th spot. The charts would have been completely different if AMD hadn't discontinued Ryzen 5000X3D processors like the 5800X3D and 5700X3D. We would have almost seen them trading blows in sales with the 7800X3D and 9800X3D, but I think it's time AMD should revive them. We don't know how long the Ryzen 5000 will continue in the market before going EOL, but it's currently the only hope for gamers who want to enjoy gaming without paying hundreds of dollars extra.
