Cold Iron Studios released the first Aliens: Fireteam Elite game back in 2021 to a middling response. Most critics (Wccftech's Kai Tatsumoto included) agreed that it was an alright game overall but missed the mark in several ways. Three years later in July 2024, a major leak practically confirms that Cold Iron was getting another kick at the can with a sequel. Now, nearly two years after that, we finally get a look at Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2, and it'll be in players' hands sooner than later with its arrival set for Summer 2026.
Announced with a brief post on social media yesterday with its official reveal done today in collaboration with IGN, the new trailer goes straight from a short cinematic opening to a proper gameplay reveal, showing off the co-op third-person shooting action and the onslaught of Xenomorph threats that you'll have to contend with.
It also shows off one of the new elements included in the sequel, which is that it has moved from three-player co-op to a four-player co-op structure, as you'll need an extra pair of hands to deal with "new and returning threats" according to Cold Iron Studios, with enemies that are "smarter" and "more aggressive that adapt to your tactics, providing a tougher, more dynamic challenge," per the game's website.
Cold Iron has been working on this sequel in full force since October 2023, when it officially moved away from developing new content for the first game. With all the time that's passed since the first game, it'll be interesting to see how the studio absorbed the criticisms of Fireteam Elite and what else about the game has evolved for the sequel.
Besides bumping up the difficulty and adding a fourth into the mix, the studio also boasts that this sequel will include solid weapon customization and buildcrafting with more options for players, and unlike the first game, it'll feature cross-platform co-op support at launch.
Hopefully, Cold Iron Studios is able to deliver on its vision for Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2. The first game definitely showed a lot of potential, even if it didn't always perfectly execute the vision. It's a perfect setup for this sequel to come in and absolutely blow every expectation for it out of the water with a massive improvement over its predecessor.
We'll see if that's the case when it arrives on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S sometime in Summer 2026.
