Losing luggage at the airport is a nightmare for travelers, but for one passenger at Los Angeles International Airport, a small Apple gadget turned the story into a surprisingly happy ending. Luckily, the passenger had placed an AirTag inside his suitcase, which allowed him to track its location, and what could have been a nightmare soon turned into a story praising the Apple technology that saved the day.

A stolen suitcase at LAX was quickly recovered thanks to Apple’s AirTag, proving its growing role in travel security

Daniel Scott, a West Hollywood man, landed from Salt Lake City and was waiting for two luggage bags that he brought with him. After waiting for a while, he decided to check his Find My app to locate the baggage with the AirTag that he snuck inside earlier. Watching the tracker’s dot move on his map, he saw the bag heading toward the ride-share area. He tried chasing it, but whoever had the luggage was faster. While the AirTag continued to ping its location, Scott followed it, which led him straight to an abandoned, boarded-up building near the airport.

The LAX police were called, who found the suitcase inside, with clothes strewn across multiple rooms, and a person wearing Scott’s clothes. The same person greeted the police and Scott at the door, and thankfully, the suspects were arrested, and most of the clothing was returned home safe and sound. The traveler later told NBC Los Angeles that he recommends everyone use AirTags for peace of mind, but it is also wise to involve the authorities instead of handling the matter yourself.

This is not the first time that we have heard stories related to the AirTag locating lost or stolen items, especially at the airport. We have previously covered how an AirTag saved a magician’s suitcase at the airport. It was only a few days ago that an AirTag was used to recover another traveler’s $15,000 worth of stolen clothing, and LAXPD was involved in pursuing the case.

Apple’s AirTags are small and can be hidden inside anything, and if you travel a lot, it is always vital to keep one around. Scott is right on one thing: the AirTags do give you peace of mind, as you can see the location of your items at all times. There is a wide range of uses for the AirTags, but the purpose remains the same - to keep track of the location of your items, pets, and more. We will share more details on the web story as soon as further information is available. Please share your thoughts with us in the comments.
