Earlier this year Paradox Interactive and developer Triumph Studios announced fans could look forward to a fresh dose of fantasy-themed 4X fun when Age of Wonders 4 launches this spring. Of course, as with all Paradox titles, Age of Wonders 4 will offer a ton of post-launch content, and today they detailed what you can expect from the game’s Expansion Pass. But first, here’s a new story trailer, featuring the return of the powerful Wizard Kings, who are sure to cause all sorts of trouble.
Pre-orders for the Age of Wonders 4 are open now, with all those who put their money down getting the Aric Rex Ruler, Lion Plate Armor Set, Athlan Crown, and Imperial Cape as a bonus. There are two versions of Age of Wonders 4 – the $50 standard edition, and the $90 Premium Edition, which includes the game’s Expansion Pass. Said Expansion Pass includes two story expansions and additional content, which you can get more details on, below.
Expansion Pass Contents:
- Archmage Attire
- Dragon Dawn Content Pack: This content pack includes a new Dragon Ruler type, a Reptilian Form, and New Tomes of Magic, and will launch in Q3 2023.
- Primal Fury Content Pack: Channel Nature’s Spirits in the Age of Wonders 4: Primal Fury Content Pack. Create races using new beastly forms and a primeval culture, with new Tomes of Magic that tap nature’s hidden powers and the Fey realms. Your surroundings will be able to contain new forms of wildlife, creatures and bountiful resources. Primal Fury will become available in Q1 2024.
- Empires and Ashes Expansion: Fuse magic and steel to unleash devastating war machines to drive the Godir back into the Astral Sea. This full expansion, slated for launch in Q4 2023, includes a new Culture, new Tomes of Magic, new Empire Building options and a new Story Realm.
- Eldritch Realms Expansion: New forces threaten the rule of the Godir of Magehaven. With new strange monsters, new racial forms, magical realms and locations, this full expansion will bring a new dimension to the game in Q2 2024.
For those unfamiliar with the Age of Wonders series, the games offer a unique combination of 4X empire building with XCOM-style tactical battles. Age of Wonders 4 promises to mix things up by allowing players to create their own unique fantasy race. You can get more details on the game here.
