Intel's Raptor Lake lineup is known for the trouble it has caused its consumers in the past, but are those processors still a good choice in modern times? Well, a YouTuber has answered just this.
Intel's 14th Gen & 13th Gen CPUs Are Being Sold at 'Throwaway' Prices in the Used Market, But Avoid Them For Now!
Well, many of us here are aware of the issues with Intel's 14th Gen & 13th Gen processors, especially around their EOL timeline, and how many SKUs out there were witnessing stability problems under stress conditions. It reached a point where the problem had spread to a majority of users out there, due to which Intel had to implement extensive RMA measures, which still didn't cater to all of the affected users out there. However, the YouTuber Iceberg Tech managed to experiment around the condition of second-hand Raptor Lake processors in the market, buying a Core i9-13900K. What happened next is hilarious and surprising at the same time.
The Raptor Lake was probably one of the last generations from Intel, which managed to bring in decent performance onboard, which is why the early adoption of the series was pretty decent. The thermal instability problems came in around the end of 2024, and they were associated with multiple issues, such as voltage fluctuations. Iceberg Tech grabbed a Core i9-13900K for €240 from CeX, which is a British retailer specializing in pre-owned items. The CPU originally had an MSRP of €550, so the YouTuber got it for almost half the price.
The first thing he did was run CPU-Z benchmarks on his 'relatively' newer CPU, and after a few minutes into the benchmark, the OS showed the 'Black Screen of Death', which was a common aftermath of voltage instability. Now, the user tried multiple BIOS and power limit configurations, but he still reported problems throughout the usage. So, the conclusion is likely made here, which is to refrain from the Raptor Lake series entirely, either used or new SKUs, since they would likely bother users in the long run.
Intel's 14th Gen & 13th Gen processors are still very capable models, but the instability issues have plagued the lineup to the point where they are being sold at throwaway prices. Since then, Intel hasn't managed to release a CPU lineup competitive enough, and even Arrow Lake didn't do justice to Team Blue fans out there.
