WhatsApp Chat and Data Transfer From Android to iPhone

File sharing has become an essential part of the smartphone ecosystem. Whether you are an Apple user or an Android user, there are always options available. We have the newly rebranded Quick Share on Android and the legendary AirDrop on the other side. Now, it appears that even WhatsApp is looking to introduce its own file-sharing system that will work within the app.

Despite enough file-sharing systems already available, WhatsApp wants to introduce its own

It appears that WhatsApp is working on an ability that will let people share files wirelessly. This feature will work in tandem with the file-sharing system that is already available on both Android and iOS. The feature was spotted in the beta version 2.24.2.20, and it features file sharing that works on devices nearby. You will also need the People Nearby screen to be open so you can send and receive files. If the users do not have the phone number of the other person, the devices are not going to be able to communicate.

Another thing to note here is that in order to create a sharing request using the new WhatsApp feature, both users will need to open the People Nearby screen and then shake their devices. Do keep in mind that the file size is limited to 2 gigs, and the feature is still being tested, which means that the new service will not let you share larger files, which could be a hindrance for some users.

Honestly, I am not really sure why WhatsApp is working on this feature other than the fact that they are actually developing it. We are going to learn more about it in the near future, and we can only hope that the feature makes it to the final version and is not scraped before its official release.

Do you think WhatsApp needs to bring a file-sharing system to an ecosystem that has its own list of similar and even better features? Let us know in the comments below.
