Announced during last month's Nintendo Direct, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake will be the first entry in the series built from the ground up for Nintendo Switch 2. While not a lot is currently known about the game, the Japanese company seems to already be looking ahead under series producer Eiji Aonuma, and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess may be the next entry in the series to be remade for the current-generation Nintendo system, as the next-gen console hardware allows for new features and technical enhancements not possible on the original Nintendo Switch.

"I hadn't heard anything about Zelda: Twilight Princess until not so long ago, but it seems a new version could arrive at some point," said prominent leaker Nash Weedle during an episode of the Partida Zero podcast a few days ago. "I had already commented a while back that I wasn't expecting either Wind Waker or Twilight Princess if they couldn't incorporate something more into them, and now with the Switch 2, it's possible. For Twilight Princess, fairly strong rumors have reached me, but for Wind Waker, it seems to have been left in limbo."

As The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake has been in active development for some time and we only heard about it a few months ahead of its planned release later this year, we shouldn't expect to hear more about the return of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess with the few extras teased by the insider anytime soon. Also, we should definitely take this with a grain of salt, as while Nash Weedle proved reliable in the past few months regarding Zelda series rumors, known industry insider Nate the Hate was unable to corroborate the information at the time.

If the The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake will indeed be followed by the return of Twilight Princess, it will be interesting to see how it will fit in the series timeline, as a new main entry in the franchise is likely to be in development as well, and how much it will improve on the Wii U HD remaster. Hopefully, it won't take long to see what's next for the Zelda franchise in the next couple of years.
