A dataminer has seemingly found an element of the "radically different business models" Xbox chief executive officer Asha Sharma was discussing in her path to find a way for players to afford the next generation of Xbox consoles, like Project Helix. Spotted by Insider-Gaming, a dataminer on X (formerly Twitter) has found details for a "buy now, pay later" program in the backend of Xbox's website.
User redphx found mention of the payment program along with mention of payment processors like PayPal and Klarna. The obvious guess is that a program like this would be structured mostly for upcoming Xbox hardware, though at least in what was found, there's no indication it would be limited to just Xbox hardware.
Of course, it's worth noting that Xbox has not announced an official payment program or anything like that, though it's easy to see Xbox turning to a new system like this to help get players in the door to the next generation of hardware.
Though payment plans provide a way for players unable to afford the full price up frontof what'll likely be an incredibly expensive next-generation console, they can also eventually become more expensive than that initial lump sum.
It's not the cleanest solution, but realistically, nothing is, especially when we're talking about ways for Xbox to get out of the hole it has built itself over the last decade. We're likely going to see Sharma and her new regime try a lot of things the previous regime wasn't trying, along with a few old classics they were, like mass layoffs and shutting down award-winning studios.
