Windows Laptops Will Find It Impossible To Compete With The MacBook Neo As Their Survival Depends On Three Companies Getting Everything Right

Apple's MacBook Neo has created a problem for Windows laptop manufacturers

Apple has put the entire notebook industry on notice with its MacBook Neo, which starts from $599 and offers a combination of solid build quality, battery life, and internals to deliver customers one heck of a package. Only last year, the most affordable portable Mac from the Cupertino firm was its $999 MacBook Air, and now, it has truly introduced a game-changer that’s designed to eat the lunch of its competitors.

Now, one YouTuber discusses the impact the MacBook Neo will have on the mobile computing space and claims that unless three companies come together and work in unison to deliver everything near-perfectly, it will be impossible for Windows machines to make a dent in Apple’s momentum.

Microsoft, the notebook manufacturer, and processor vendors all have to collaborate to compete with the MacBook Neo, and it’s tough to keep healthy margins in this space

The MacBook Neo is Apple’s cheapest integration of software and hardware, with the company’s own macOS platform and A18 Pro a part of its innards. Even if the California-based giant is making razor-thin margins on each unit sold, YouTuber MKBHD has discussed in his latest video that it will be far more than what Windows laptop companies are raking in, and here’s why.

For any Windows machine to do well, companies like Dell, ASUS, Acer, Razer, Lenovo, and other manufacturers must rely on Intel, AMD, or Qualcomm to provide an excellent processor that competes with Apple Silicon, while also hoping that Microsoft delivers a polished experience with Windows. The problem is that this is difficult to achieve as there are more players involved in the process.

MKBHD begins to compare a premium notebook like the Dell XPS 14, a $2,199 Windows 11 notebook equipped with an Intel Panther Lake processor, a gorgeous tandem OLED, a unibody aluminum chassis to rival Apple’s MacBook series, and more. As you can tell, the price is certainly out of the budget of the majority of buyers, making it a problem that will continue to exist because more companies are present in a single category.

Assuming we want to tackle the MacBook Neo’s $599 price tag head-on, we can take the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3x, which can be had for $562.99 on Amazon. With its Snapdragon X processor, 16GB RAM, and a 512GB SSD, this machine effectively competes with the MacBook Neo in specifications, but it sports a plastic build, not to mention a subpar display on its 15.3-inch frame. There are countless examples that we can share, but we are confident that readers have understood the point.

The scary part of this scenario is that Apple is reported to be working on a successor to the MacBook Neo, which should launch sometime in 2027, and will likely ship with the A19 Pro. There are two versions of the MacBook Neo currently listed on Amazon, with the base model packing a 256GB SSD and no Touch ID going for $599. You can also grab the 512GB SSD version, which not only features Touch ID but is slightly discounted at $689.99.
