Apple broke the mold with the iOS 26, jettisoning its penchant for largely iterative changes to the now-mature mobile operating system in favor of a radical design that matches aspects of the fresh form factor introduced in the iPhone 17 lineup, especially the Air model.

What's more, the iOS 26 experience continues to evolve. As a case in point, Apple has now rolled out polls within the Messages app, finally bringing an in-demand feature to its native messaging app.

You need to go through a simple 5-step routine to add polls to an ongoing conversation:

  1. Press the + button next to the message input field
  2. Select Polls in the corresponding vertical list
  3. Fill in up to 12 options or choices for the poll
  4. Add an optional message to the poll
  5. Tap the send button

Chat participants can then vote for their preferred choice by simply tapping it. An "Add Choice" option remains visible below the poll, allowing any chat participant to add their preferred choices to the poll. Finally, to view who voted for which choice, simply long press the poll to get a dropdown menu, and then select "Poll Details."

If your device supports Apple Intelligence, the Messages App will also intermittently suggest new poll ideas, depending on the context of the ongoing conversation. Also, you can now add custom chat backgrounds to individual chats.

Of course, the iOS 26 offers much more than simply polls within the Messages app. Its expansive list of new features include an innovative Liquid Glass design that relies on translucent layers, dynamic gradients, and fluid animations that aim to bestow a fresh look to your device, native support for satellite connectivity, an AI-powered adaptive power mode, and much more.
