Apple Watch buyers facing issues with activation through Verizon

Apple Watch buyers have lately been experiencing cellular issues due to a cumbersome activation process. This is especially the case of facing hiccups during activation for customers who own an Apple Watch on Verizon's network. It seems that despite filing complaints repeatedly, the company has been slow in resolving the issues, adding frustration to the overall technical glitches faced by the customers.

Apple Watch buyers share their frustration on the activation issues faced by Verizon network

This is not the first time Apple Watch users have been frustrated by Verizon as customers have also complained about high bills and delayed services previously. Now, the issue faced by buyers of wearables seems to be that they are not able to connect to the network at all. AppleInsider reports that several users have shared about spending hours contacting Verizon support for their problem, and the issue is still persistent.

Many users took it to the Verizon community to pen down their experience, and one specific user suggested that the issue stems from where the Apple Watch was bought and whether it was Verizon itself or otherwise. Those who have purchased the Apple Watch through Verizon would be able to activate it without any hindrances. Tim is one of the users who elaborates on the issue:

When Verizon receives product from Apple for their inventory, Verizon logs the IMEI number into their system. When you go through the activation App on the iPhone for the Cellular part of an Apple Watch, the Watch App looks for the IMEI number in the Verizon system, finds it, and Verizon assigns an eSIM (which appears as the ICCID in the Watch App), and viola - a connection to the Verizon network is made. So if you buy your Verizon product, directly from Verizon, you will have no issue connecting to the cellular network

Since the IMEI serial number is not in Verizon's database if the Apple Watch is purchased through any other vendor, including Apple, it will not be activated. The user went on to state that even if buyers tried to reset, fix the pairing, or even cancel the service and get a new service instead, the issue would still be there, and the only way out would be to have the IMEI for the Apple Watch registered in the Verizon database.

While Verizon has not yet commented on the issue, Apple Watch buyers who face difficulties activating their cellular plan when setting up the wearable must be frustrated. The network provider would need to deal with this setup disruption to avoid losing customers who go through the unpleasant experience.
