At $45, the Verizon Simplicity plan drills through the confusion and offers customers a seamless way to subscribe to a line without worrying about hidden costs or charges, or at least that’s what the carrier’s marketing claims. For those planning to switch, here are three hidden conditions that you might not have known, and it’s better to learn now than to regret later.
One downside of moving to Verizon Simplicity is that you cannot go back to the company’s other plans
Moving to Verizon Simplicity means that you’ll lose out on your existing device credits and loyalty discounts, and that’s just the surface of the terms that you don’t know about. Thankfully, Redditor “SwitchNinjaApp” took the liberty of highlighting the three conditions below, and it’s imperative that you educate yourself on this information before pulling the trigger.
1. The $30 switcher discount is explicitly temporary. Verizon's own press release calls it an "initial promotional offer." People who lock it in now keep it — but that's the legal language they used. The permanent price with AutoPay is $45.
2. Switching to Simplicity is a one-way door. You cannot go back to myPlan, Unlimited Plus, Unlimited Ultimate, or any legacy plan afterward. If you have a good setup right now, that's worth knowing before you pull the trigger.
3. Video caps at 720p everywhere - and it's not in any ad. Dr Evil didn't mention this. UWB areas, LTE areas, doesn't matter. It's only in the plan terms. If you hotspot to a TV or cast, that's relevant.
It’s also worth noting that irrespective of the number of lines you have, you’ll be charged the same amount. The $30 figure is just for the promotion as mentioned above, with the amount jumping to $45 if you have Verizon Visa AutoPay. If you don’t, the base rate is a flat $55.
Furthermore, the trade-in amount is paid as a single upfront credit, not monthly bill credits, with speeds dropping to 4Mbps for the rest of the month after the 500GB on-device data has been used up. We recommend going through the fine print before subscribing to Verizon Simplicity, as that’ll clear the air about a lot of things.
