MSI's service center just swapped the socket cover with an ASUS one, but that wasn't the only problem.
Redditor Reports His MSI Motherboard Got an ASUS Socket Cover in RMA Request; MSI Reportedly Refused to Provide Any Refunds for the Damage Caused
Denied RMA requests are nothing new in the industry, but carelessness on the vendor's part cannot be excused. We have seen some PC hardware makers try to back out of honoring the warranty services on silly issues, but thankfully, social media gives users a platform to report such cases. The latest one involves a Redditor u/debbiruman, who had issues with his MSI B650M Gaming Plus WiFi motherboard.
The user sent it to the authorized MSI service center in Turkey as he was witnessing some freezing issues with his PC. The user says that he reportedly received the motherboard back without the BIOS battery, and even the CPU socket pins were "completely crushed". He found MSI slapping an ASUS-branded socket cover on his socket, which could have bent the pins since it wasn't secured properly.
Keep in mind that a socket cover from a different brand is compatible with another motherboard as long as the socket is the same, but in this case, it was the service center's negligence that caused such damage during transit. That said, the user did inform MSI about the damage his motherboard sustained, but MSI reportedly denied the refund for the motherboard.
MSI is now asking him to pay 1250 Turkish Lira or US$28 + VAT to repair the socket. The surprising part is that the user has sent this motherboard for RMA three times, but MSI didn't find any issues. It's possible that the motherboard may not have been the actual cause for any freezes or that the user's CPU, RAM, or any other hardware was the culprit, but if this wasn't a user-induced damage as reported, MSI's negligence cannot be excused.
The user has now bought a new motherboard, as proving that the damage was caused by the service center would be difficult, especially since he did not record the unboxing.
