Google finally caught up to the competition when it was revealed that the company’s entire Pixel 10 family ships with the newer and speedier UFS 4.0 storage. Of course, as you might imagine, the company once again took a shortcut with the base versions, meaning that you will have little choice but to accept the slower onboard memory if you plan on picking up the 128GB versions of the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro. It appears that Google has once again found a way to cut corners, meaning that if you want devices sporting UFS 4.0 technology, you will have to avoid the aforementioned versions.
To get UFS 4.0 in Pixel 10 models, make sure that you pick up the 256GB version as the bare minimum
Taking advantage of the faster UFS 4.0 storage means you will have to skip the 128GB storage variants of the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro and opt for the 256GB ones. In the U.S., this decision will result in a $100 increase for whichever smartphone you purchase, but at least the larger Pixel 10 Pro XL is not affected, as even its base version ships with UFS 4.0 storage because it features 256GB of onboard memory as the bare minimum.
Suppose you can only have access to the base Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro with 128GB storage, Google employs the slower and less efficient UFS 3.1 technology, with UFS 4.0 being up to 200 percent increase in data transfer speeds, while consuming up to 46 percent less power. So what does this mean for your upgrade? In short, it can open up apps much faster because UFS 4.0 has increased IOPS, leading to better response time from your smartphone while also performing actions quickly.
The increased read and write speeds also means that the higher-storage variants of the Pixel 10 can record 4K footage without experiencing a performance drop, which boosts reliability. While we do not personally believe that using UFS 3.1 is a bad thing, when you charge $799 for a smartphone, the value proposition starts to erode, even though every single model ships with the newer 3nm Tensor G5.
If you genuinely want to experience those UFS 4.0-powered Pixel 10 models and if you want a valuable freebie in return, you can pre-order the 256GB of Pixel 10 Pro for $899 and get a $100 gift card, or secure yourself a Pixel 10 Pro with the same storage and get a $200 gift card in return, for $1,099.
