A few hours ago, Ubisoft leaker xj0nathan decided to share a screenshot from a private playtest of Assassin's Creed Invictus, the rumored multiplayer Fall Guys-inspired spin-off. However, the official Assassin's Creed X account responded to him quickly, claiming that the screenshot had been heavily altered with AI tools:
Nice try… This might have started as an image from our private test, but it’s been heavily altered (most probably with AI). Not great to spread misinformation. 👎
For those genuinely curious about the project: we'll share more when the time is right!
As you would expect, the leaker didn't take too kindly to the rebuke. He claimed he had only altered some colors to remove the playtest's watermark and 'improve' the colors, but he then shared what he said was the original screenshot, which, admittedly, looked almost identical to the modified one.
A few days ago, xj0nathan had reported that a recent Assassin's Creed Invictus playtest was conducted on April 30, and the feedback was not positive at all. He added that the game should launch in 2026, but there's a non-trivial chance it's delayed again (it was supposed to launch in 2025, according to a previous rumor from Tom Henderson) or even canceled outright.
The game is being developed by a team of For Honor veterans at Ubisoft Montreal, bringing deep PvP design expertise to the franchise. Head of Content Jean Guesdon has confirmed it represents "a new approach to multiplayer in the franchise". It should feature iconic Assassin's Creed characters fighting in arenas across various rounds, as shown by the leaked screenshot. Earlier this year, Ubisoft canceled a co-op game called AC League, though its cooperative multiplayer technology has been salvaged for future projects.
As for xj0nathan, his track record on the Assassin's Creed franchise is strong; he has been leaking and teasing Assassin's Creed content for years, and sources in the community treat his AC information as credible.
