There have been rumors circling for months now that CD Projekt RED is preparing a new DLC expansion for The Witcher 3 as a way to prepare for The Witcher 4's upcoming release. Though it was initially rumored to arrive sometime in May 2026, which would align with the game's 11th anniversary, Polish publication Strefa Inwestorów (the same outlet that initially reported previous rumors), spoke to an analyst from a brokerage firm that covers CDPR. Now, instead of a May 2026 release, they're pointing to one closer to September 2026 - but whenever it'll be out, it'll be before GTA VI.

Everyone is trying to avoid releasing around GTA VI this year, so it's not the most prescient of predictions to say that CDPR wants to give a DLC for a game that came out over a decade ago the best chance it has at garnering significant sales by avoiding GTA's release window. They even say as much before predicting the September release window.

"I didn't include DLC for The Witcher 3 in the model, but like everyone else, I assume that CD Projekt will try to release the DLC before the new GTA release date to avoid this difficult period for other titles," the analyst said in an interview with Strefa Inwestorów via machine translation. "So definitely before November, probably around Q3. I think September is the best window. In the summer, gamers are on vacation, and September seems like a nice 'back to school' period. However, things could change. They might come up with the idea to release it in two or three months."

"We can toss around potential dates, but the company likely takes into account many factors that influence the release window. They'll probably also have to ensure that the quality from Fool's Theory is fully satisfactory, so I prefer to assume it will be a bit later."

While this prediction would push the DLC away from the anniversary, which is a little unfortunate, the reality of the situation could just be that CDPR wants to give the DLC as much time as possible. It's definitely exciting for fans of The Witcher 3 to see these rumors continue to appear, because it gives them a reason to return to a game they already love, while also providing the handful of people who haven't played The Witcher 3 yet another reminder that they should consider their own journey to the Continent.

It's also important to look at these rumors in the context of what CDPR has actually publicly stated. Earlier this week, CDPR stated in no uncertain terms that it has "no plans for additional DLCs or expansions" for Cyberpunk 2077. That statement came without no persistent nagging or poking, just a direct answer to a question from a user on X (formerly Twitter). If the same was true for The Witcher 3, you'd think they would have said something by now.

Hopefully, we'll have some more official wording on this rumored The Witcher 3 DLC soon. Perhaps it won't be out by May 2026, but we'll find out about it then.
