The Galaxy S26 Series’ Sales Are Pulling Ahead Of The S25 Lineup’s, Incentivizing Samsung’s Laziness

Galaxy S26 review roundup

Despite putting forth what is largely an iterative update with the new Galaxy S26 series, Samsung appears to be raking in higher sales relative to the last year's Galaxy S25 series, at least as per initial impressions. Should this trend continue, however, it risks rewarding complacency, one that might feasibly result in progressively less competitive offerings from Samsung further down the line.

Samsung Galaxy S26 series has recorded a pre-order volume of 1.35 million units in South Korea so far

Samsung has now revealed that its initial pre-order volume for the new Galaxy S26 series stands at 1.35 million units in South Korea, ahead of the 1.30 million units that the S25 series had recorded by this time last year. What's more, the Galaxy S26 Ultra has ended up commanding around 70 percent of the pre-orders, which is not really a surprise in hindsight given the Ultra-exclusive nature of Samsung's new Privacy Display and the egregiously wonky pricing of the S26+, whose only purpose appears to be to coax customers towards the Ultra variant.

Of course, this comes as Samsung is largely perceived to have delivered an iterative update with the Galaxy S26 series. To get an idea, look no further than the camera setups on the new lineup: the base Galaxy S26 sports the same camera module as the base S25, while the S26+ and the S26 Ultra bear only token improvements.

At a time when Apple has re-energized the smartphone market with its iPhone 17 lineup and upstarts such as Nothing's Phone (4a) Pro keep holding their own against other flagships, Samsung should not make the error of viewing its encouraging early sales cadence for Galaxy S26 series as an impetus for complacency, especially as the South Korean behemoth already appears to be inching towards that murky zone of inertia-driven sloth.
