T-Mobile is increasing prices for subscribers on older plans

T-Mobile seems to be bringing many changes recently and improving its services by first encouraging transitioning to the T-Life app for users to rely more on self-service, then making it easier for consumers to differentiate between authorized retailers and third-party stores for better transparency. Now, amidst the ongoing changes, the telecommunication service provider has announced that it will be increasing the prices for subscribers on many of its legacy plans. This is not the first time the company has gone for a price hike, and it seems to be a continuation of the increased prices attributed to operational costs last year.

T-Mobile is raising prices for many legacy plan subscribers owing to the rising operational costs

T-Mobile increased prices for many of its subscribers last year due to rising operational costs, and it seems that this year, too, a price surge is attributed to increasing costs. T-Mobile announced that starting April 2, 2025, the company would implement a $5/ line monthly price increase for many subscribers of its legacy plan. It is important to highlight that the affected customers would be informed about the increased price through text messages and emails.

Many affected consumers took to Reddit to share that the impacted users are those with older T-Mobile plans such as T-Mobile ONE and Magenta MAX. Customers with Price Lock guarantees and on relatively newer plans such as GoG5, GoG5 Next, and Go5G Plus would not be impacted by the increased prices. T-Mobile took it to X to share its commitment to maintaining low prices and providing value to consumers across all plans despite the price increase.

The message that affected customers would be getting to inform of the adjustment is:

For the first time in nearly a decade, we’re making an update to the price of some of our monthly service plans. Starting on 4/2/2025, your phone plan will increase by $5 per line per month. You’ll keep all the benefits you currently enjoy, and your rate plan type and bill due date remain the same.

T-Mobile highlights how its price remains competitive, especially compared to AT&T and Verizon, which have undergone multiple price hikes in recent years. The carrier further emphasized that the existing benefits and promotions remained unchanged, and users who are considering a plan change can opt for it at any time.

Subscribers who have been continuing on a plan for years would find this price increase unwelcome. Only users affected by the price increase will receive the notification.
