Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is one of the biggest question marks on the near horizon – the new co-op DC Comics actioner has the pedigree, coming from Batman Arkham developer Rocksteady Studios, but its gameplay debut was not well-received (largely due its live service elements). That backlash led to a delay and we haven’t seen anymore more from the game in months. Well, today Rocksteady dropped their first “Suicide Squad Insider” video, showcasing a bunch of new footage of the game in action. You can check it out for yourself, below.

Rocksteady is keen to emphasize that Suicide Squad will still have the kind of story content the studio is known for, and the early mission we’re shown seems to back that up. We see the Suicide Squad explore the Hall of Justice, where they find the gimmicks that give them their new traversal powers (yes, there is an in-game explanation for the question of “Why can everyone fly?”) We then see the team emerge into Metropolis, which has been decimated by Brainiac. The Squad then have a run-in with both Green Lantern and Flash, and have to track down the Penguin in order to acquire weapons. Overall, it looks like Rocksteady’s writing and worldbuilding skills are intact.

In terms of gameplay, we get a better look at the game’s Metropolis sandbox, and each character’s unique traversal and combat abilities. Mastering these is key to succeeding in the game, and at times the action seems to resemble Sony’s Spider-Man and InFamous games. What we don’t see is anything regarding Suicide Squad’s controversial live-service elements, although we know they’re still in the game thanks to the description of the game’s Deluxe Edition. This $100 version of the game will include the usual array of cosmetics, early access, and… a premium battle pass token. Rocksteady is promising at least a year of support and 4 battle passes post-launch. Here’s evening included in the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Deluxe Edition…

While they’re locked behind a $100 pre-order, I have to admit, those Suicide Squad classic outfits are pretty neat, particularly the Harley Quinn one.
