Despite being set for a generic Summer 2026 release, there's a very strong possibility Valve's highly anticipated Steam Machine will launch at the very beginning of the season, as the system is already in the hands of some users, as heavily suggested by two new Geekbench 6.7.1 entries surfaced yesterday, June 15, as reported by Videocardz.
While the benchmarked system is not identified as a Steam Machine, we have known for a while that its codename is Valve Fremont. Interestingly enough, these two new benchmarks are the first ones showing SteamOS - the Linux-based operating system - as the environment, which has only recently started supporting the custom AMD hardware following the roll-out of the recent SteamOS 3.8.9 Beta update.
Besides the Steam Machine getting tested with SteamOS, the new Geekbench entries show the details of the system's CPU:
- Processor: AMD Custom CPU 1772
- Core Configuration: 6 cores, 12 threads
- Clock Speed: 4.86 GHz base frequency
As the scores are in line with those of the first benchmarks, which surfaced in August 2025, and were conducted with Windows as the operating system, it seems that the SteamOS doesn't bring any significant performance improvement.
However, one interesting thing to note is that the single-core score is about twice that of the PlayStation 5 CPU (2334 vs 1218), indicating how the Steam Machine should fare better than Sony's current generation in CPU-intensive scenarios, although it's the GPU that will determine how Valve's system will truly compare. In addition, going by these results, the Steam Machine will be an emulation beast, offering something that traditional consoles cannot, unless jailbroken, in the case of the PlayStation 5.
With these fresh benchmarks now out, the Steam Machine is undoubtedly inching closer to launch, as is the moment of truth for its price, which is said to have already exceeded the current $950 price of the Steam Deck OLED two months ago. Hopefully, Valve will keep the Steam Machine price as low as possible to offer an affordable option for gamers to enjoy PC gaming with the convenience of a console.
