Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles brought Square Enix’s excellent tactical role-playing game to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Nintendo Switch systems, with an impressive technical overhaul that has only grown more impressive with an "Enhanced" patch that introduces new features and options. Sadly, it did not bring what most fans would have wanted to see: the War of the Lions exclusive content.

New Game + And Zodiac Compatibility

The biggest addition of the new patch as detailed on the official patch notes is New Game +, which allows the player to start a new game with unit levels, item data, and more carried over from a previously completed playthrough. Needless to say, this is a great boon for replayability, as not only it makes it really easy to experience the entirety of the game's excellent story without having to grind for Job Points and special items, but also will allow players to breeze through some of the game's most challenging battles, such as the one on the roof of Riovanes Castle.

Zodiac Compatibility is also a massive addition, as the Zodiac Sign of each unit determines how effective units are against others. This new function lets players check a unit’s zodiac sign and compatibility from its status screen.

Adjustments and New Settings

The Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles Enhanced patch also brings some quality of life improvements as well as new settings. Among them, the ones that make the most difference is the "Remove All Equipment "option, which makes managing a huge number of units much simpler, the "Ability Incantations Guaranteed" option, which ensures abilities with incantations will always be performed, and support for Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean languages.

Dark Knight and Onion Knight, You Are Still Missed

Unfortunately, the new patch makes no mention of the additional content players would have loved to see officially implemented in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles: the War of the Lions exclusive content. This includes two additional Jobs, the Dark Knight and Onion Knight jobs, additional gear and characters, including Final Fantasy Tactics A2 protagonist Luso and Final Fantasy XII's Sky Pirate Balthier, and a few other additions.

While on PC, some dedicated users managed to restore most of it, taking advantage of some leftover data discovered in the game's code, console players are still out of luck, so hopefully Square Enix will eventually get around to add the missing features found on the mobile version of the game to make Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles the true definitive edition of the game.
