Sony Strips “Other OS” Functionality from PS3 3.21 Firmware Upgrade

Sony has announced the latest firmware upgrade (3.21) to the top selling Play Station 3 (PS3) but has taken out the "Other OS" functionality in PS3 and PS3 Slim, which enables the users to install another operating system on their Play Stations.

Sony claims that using the "other OS" feature, a user's Play Station can be compromised as already done by George Hotz using a hack which uses the feature and compromises a user's PS3. Sony has said in its Blog that users using the feature will not be able to have the following updates to their systems:

The PS3 3.21 update is schedule for availability on April 1st, 2010
