In just the first quarter of 2023, we have found out more about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 than Qualcomm would have liked, and according to the latest specifications leak, which is massive, we learn the company will take a different CPU configuration approach, plus other details. Here is more information that you would love to read about.

Latest leak reveals the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s Cortex-X4 is operating at a much lower clock speed than what was previously reported on

Unfortunately, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will not make use of TSMC’s 3nm process, as Apple was previously reported to have secured the entire supply for its upcoming A17 Bionic and M3 chipsets. Instead, Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship SoC will likely be manufactured on the same 4nm architecture as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which is not a bad thing, though it does mean that in terms of pure efficiency metrics, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will lose to the A17 Bionic quite easily.

Also, Qualcomm may opt for a ‘1 + 5 + 2’ CPU cluster instead of the ‘1 + 2 + 2 + 3’ it adopted for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. What this means is with the efficiency cores reduced, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 could be focused on delivering more performance when it starts powering Android flagships next year. What is strange about this bit is that just a few weeks ago, we heard that the same ‘1 + 2 + 2 + 3’ CPU cluster was going to be maintained for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

With the upcoming SoC, we should also be greeted by the new Adreno 750 GPU, with the entire CPU configuration provided below. Just so you know, the Cortex-X4 is said to be running at 3.20GHz, which is interesting to read, because we previously reported that this super core could be operating at 3.70GHz. It is possible that the higher-clocked version may be reserved for the Galaxy S24 family next year.

With this configuration, expect to see some massive multi-core performance improvements. In fact, we published a leak of what appeared to be an engineering sample of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and it effortlessly beat the A16 Bionic in Geekbench 5’s multi-core run, which is impressive to see. Whether or not we will witness the same level of performance when the chipset is running in smartphones is anyone’s guess.

The specifications leak also lists UFS 4.1 and LPDDR5 RAM support, with the integrated 5G modem being the Snapdragon X75, which Qualcomm announced just recently. The single-core and multi-core scores have also been provided in the tweet above, so Qualcomm is likely going ‘all in’ on the performance front to make sure that it gains an edge against its competitors.

However, since this specifications leak arrived a little earlier than we would have liked, we recommend that our readers treat all this information with a pinch of salt. Hopefully, in the second half, we will come across a significantly more solid lead, so we will relay all those details to you in due time.
