Qualcomm is rumored to be working ahead of schedule for its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, because, unlike the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which was officially announced in late October, its successor could arrive earlier, at least, according to one tipster. The flagship SoC could get an unveiling in September, suggesting that the Snapdragon Summit will also occur during this month.
Announcement could happen earlier to give the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 some form of edge over the Dimensity 9500
The Dimensity 9500 will share the stage with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, with both chipsets said to be mass produced on TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process. However, if you forgot, the Dimensity 9400 from last year was announced slightly earlier than the Snapdragon 8 Elite. According to Weibo’s Digital Chat Station, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 is set to be announced in September, with the first batch of flagship smartphones expected in October.
As always, Xiaomi is one of Qualcomm’s partners that announces its family of Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 devices during the Snapdragon Summit, so it is a safe bet to assume that the Chinese firm will once again be repeating history, along with other partners from the same region. The tipster does not mention why the San Diego chipset manufacturer intends to announce the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 a whole month in advance, but our hunch is that it can get more eyeballs on its premium SoC, obtaining the upper hand over the Dimensity 9500 in some form.
No specification details were mentioned in the latest Weibo post, but we have stated in a plethora of reports that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 is rumored to ship with upgraded ‘Pegasus’ cores, which have been tested at a maximum frequency of 5.00GHz. The upcoming silicon is also said to feature 32MB of L2 cache, along with LPDDR6 RAM support, and a new Adreno 840 GPU.
While the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 is said to retain the same ‘2 + 6’ CPU cluster as the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the improvements have allowed the successor to obtain an alleged AnTuTu score of 3.8 million, making it 40 percent higher than the highest figure secured by the Snapdragon 8 Elite. As we approach the announcement month, we are sure to stumble upon more information, so stay tuned for more updates from our end.
