The launch of the 13-inch and 15-inch M5 MacBook Air is excellent news for those wanting a jaw-dropping deal on a portable Mac because Apple’s older-generation M4 MacBook Air has dropped by $300 on Amazon. Of course, it should be mentioned that the extensive price cuts have been observed on a few 15-inch models, but that’s still an attractive deal because we don’t remember the last time that such discounts were introduced. Unfortunately, the stock is slowly dwindling, and if you don’t act fast, you’ll be out of luck and a cheaper M4 MacBook Air.
If a chipset upgrade and base storage upgrade don’t really matter to you, the M4 MacBook Air is the ideal upgrade
At the online retailer, the Sky Blue, Starlight, and Midnight finishes of the larger 15-inch M4 MacBook Air have been discounted by $100- $200, with other paint jobs available. If you think that the bigger footprint will be too much for you to carry around, the 13-inch M4 MacBook Air lineup has also been discounted by up to $200, but we will reiterate that these deals are for a limited time period, so it is not recommended that interested buyers do a whole lot of waiting around.
Considering the M5 MacBook Air design likely remains unchanged from the M4 MacBook Air, the newer lineup will continue to ship with a fanless design that includes a large heatsink. While the M5 can provide impressive performance in short bursts, the SoC will quickly enter thermal throttling because there’s no active fan to tame the thermals. In fact, the M5 MacBook Pro equipped with a single fan had trouble dissipating the chipset’s heat, leaving a ton of performance on the table.
Then again, if you have a penchant for owning Apple’s latest and greatest, you can opt for the newer models, which start from $1,099, with the company finally bringing the base storage from 256GB to 512GB.
