The 12VHPWR connector had a rocky start from its melting and burning issues which affected the top NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPUs. PCI-SIG and power supply manufacturers quickly worked on resolving these issues and incorporated the new ATX 3.1 / CEM 5.1 specifications which resulted in the birth of the 12V-2x6 connector cable. This connector and the respective cables will be shipped and bundled with the latest PSUs including upcoming GPUs from AIBs.

Seasonic being one of the leading PSU manufacturers in the industry has unveiled its brand new 12V-2x6 connector cables. These cables come in a 90-degree angled design in the L-shape. These new cables will be supplied with the latest ATX 3.1 PSU series and users owning a Seasonic ATX 3.0 PSU (FOCUS/Vertex/PRIME) can also apply for this cable to be shipped to them free of cost.

Users will have to confirm that they own the aforementioned Seasonic PSU and a graphics card with the 12VHPWR connector interface. The first users will be shipped these connectors on 10 January so we can expect a wider public availability later in the month. The launch of these new 12V-2x6 connector cables aligns perfectly with the upcoming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 SUPER GPU family which will be making full use of the new power interface as evidenced in the ASUS RTX 4070 leak here.

Seasonic recently advised its customers to use a hair dryer to bend existing 12VHPWR/12V-2x6 connector cables before installing the graphics card in a PC. With an angled connector, you don't have to worry about using a heat source to bend the cable and can simply plug the connector into the card and enjoy using the graphics card worry-free. Some of the features highlighted by Seasonic for its angled 12V-2x6 connector include (via Seasonic / Machine Translated):

Expect other manufacturers (PSU / GPU) to follow suit and also release similar angled design as we enter 2024.
