The Optimus lineup is categorized into three different tiers, offering high-performance storage solutions for everyone.
Sandisk Announces OPTIMUS SSD Lineup, Featuring Blazing-Fast PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 5.0 SSDs for Consumers
Popular NAND flash memory manufacturer, Sandisk, has introduced its latest SSD lineup called OPTIMUS at CES, which offers new and fast NVMe SSDs for everyone. The company said the OPTIMUS lineup can offer blazing-fast performance for gamers, creators, and professionals, ensuring everyone can have speedy storage devices for their games/apps.
The OPTIMUS lineup will be categorized into three different segments: Optimus, Optimus GX, and Optimus GX PRO. Each category caters to the needs of a wide range of users and will offer both PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 5.0 M.2 SSDs that will now succeed and ditch the existing WD Black and Blue naming convention, such as the popular WD Blue SN5100 and WD Black SN7100 models. The model names will be retained except that the new OPTIMUS designation will indicate the product lineup change.
We don't know if there is any change in the specifications, since Sandisk didn't reveal any details on it. The WD Blue SN5100 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD will now be categorized under the Optimus family (Optimus 5100), while the WD SN850X PCIe 4.0 will be under the Optimus GX PRO (GX Pro 850X). The latter is slightly faster at sequential read/write speeds, and similarly, we will have rebranded WD Black SN7100 (new: Optimus GX 7100) PCIe 4.0 SSD under the GX family, and its smaller form-factor variant too.
The SANDISK Optimus brand redefines what performance means for consumer needs,
Our products span multiple segments and with this change we are making it easier for consumers to find the right solution for their needs.
- Heidi Arkinstall, VP, Sandisk
The PCIe 5.0 category will include SSD models such as Optimus GX PRO 8100, which offer up to a staggering 14,900 MB/s in the existing variant. Likely, there won't be any performance differences, considering Sandisk's primary goal is to introduce a new tier system for these consumer SSDs.
