Samsung has finally seen fit to announce a slew of new products at its Unpacked 2024 event, including the new Galaxy Ring, which has made rounds for months. However, what piqued our interest is the new Galaxy Watch 7 series and the newcomer to the lineup: the Galaxy Watch Ultra, which will take on the Apple Watch Ultra. The Galaxy Watch 7 and Ultra are powered by the latest internals and health features, and much more while staying at the same price point.
Samsung announces the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra and Galaxy Watch 7 with powerful internals coupled with AI features
Starting off with the Galaxy Watch Ultra, Samsung is aiming to target professional trainers and athletes with high-end health features and much more. The Watch Ultra is the company's most advanced wearable to date, and it will compete against the likes of the Apple Watch Ultra not only in terms of design but also in terms of the feature set.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra comes with a design that is sort of squarish but not exactly, as the chassis features rounded corners, which Samsung calls the titanium cushion design. Samsung claims that the new design offers more durability, but the display is circular, which is in line with the standard models. The Watch Ultra also introduces a new "Dynamic Lug" band system that works similarly to the mechanism that Apple holds for its wearable.
The wearable comes with a titanium build for enhanced durability, which also gives it 10ATM water resistance for intense swimming and even diving sessions, as the Watch Ultra can also operate 500 meters below sea level. Above sea level, the Ultra wearable can operate up to 9,000 meters, which makes room for fitness tracking and intense hiking sessions. Combined with the new AI features in One UI 6 Watch, the Galaxy Watch Ultra gets better FTP Metrics.
Other than the usual button placement, as you would find on the Galaxy Watch 7 models, the Watch Ultra comes with a new "Quick Button" like the Action Button on the Apple Watch, which is dedicated to certain features that you can set as a shortcut. The 1.5-inch display can reach brightness levels as high as 3,000 nits, which is a must-have in outdoor situations. The device is also powered by the Exynos W1000 chip with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. You can get the Galaxy Watch Ultra for $649 in the United States in Titanium Silver and Titanium Gray color options.
As for the Galaxy Watch 7 models, the wearables come in a pretty similar design to last year's models, which gives it a pretty classic look. The wearable shares most of the features of the Ultra but lacks a few professional ones as it is not oriented toward the market. It has a more toned-down and refined design compared to the Galaxy Watch Ultra and comes with new band designs for a refreshed look and feel. You can check out more details on the two watches here.
The Galaxy Watch 7 comes in two models with different sizes, but the internals are the same as those of the Galaxy Watch Ultra. It comes with the new Exynos W1000 chip with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. However, the Watch 7 will run One UI 5 instead of One UI 6 on the Ultra. You can buy the Galaxy Watch 7 for $299 in the United States with pre-orders starting today.
