One of the most anticipated devices by Samsung this year is its ultra-thin phone, the Galaxy S25 Edge, with the tech community and users eager to see the slimmest form factor by the company yet. While it was first speculated to come out in April, due to some internal reasons that involved restructuring of leadership and also strategic considerations, the company pushed back the date to May 2025. While the rumor mill has been churning for quite some time about the modern design, advanced performance, and extended battery capacity of the phone, as per the regulatory database, the upcoming device is now being painted as posing a threat to iPhone 17 Air, given its camera power.
Regulatory leak confirms Galaxy S25 Edge camera setup and iPhone 17 Air faces tough competition in the slim flagship battle
With the Galaxy S25 Edge right around the corner, the speculations seem to not be slowing down any time soon, and just when we thought there had been enough hype around the upcoming ultra-thin device, a regulatory listing gave away the camera upgrades making their way to the new model. It seems like there is more to the phone than the slim profile and premium design.
The uncovered database entries via SammyGuru confirm the earlier speculations about the S25 Edge's camera system. The listing suggests the upcoming phone's camera power could threaten the iPhone 17 Air. The primary camera is expected to remain the same as the S25 Ultra at 200MP and would come with a 1/1.3" type sensor and should be able to deliver high-quality images and detailing. The second camera is said to be a 12MP sensor with a 1/2.55" size, standing close to the offering of Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus.
However, the Galaxy S25 Edge might not come with a 50MP ultra-wide camera and may be behind competitors in wide-angle performance. Previous speculations have suggested that the ultra-thin phone would come with a selfie camera and an S5K3LU sensor and come at 1/3.2" in size. The primary camera is said to be ranked exceptional and even outperforms the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Google Pixel 9 in the Camera Score rankings. Given the slim profile of the device, such camera capabilities packed up in the Ultra model make it a very appealing option for camera enthusiasts as well.
With the Galaxy S25 Edge launch window coming close, the competition between the S25 Edge and the iPhone 17 Air would be interesting especially in terms of their camera setup. More details would emerge as the release data approaches.
