Samsung finally held its much-anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event today, which was packed with some key announcements. We saw the event kick of with AI and how it remains to be a central focus in partnership with Google to push these features further. However, the foldable lineup was the highlight of the event. While the Galaxy Z Flip 7 came at the same price bracket as its predecessor, the Z Flip FE is the model that was looked forward to for the affordability it offers and how it appeals to a wider range of audience. The South Korean tech giant released its budget-friendly variant today with premium features without being too heavy on the pocket.
Galaxy Z Flip is here with the same display design as the Flip 6, marking a new step for the budget model
Since the foldable models are usually on the higher end, making it difficult for everyone to get their hands on them, Samsung has added the Galaxy Z Flip FE, the Fan Edition model, to its foldable lineup to reach out to a wider audience. Although the new device is a counterpart of the standard model and shares many of the core features of the premium device, many features have still been left out in order to bring down the price of the affordable phone.
The Galaxy Z Flip FE comes with an Exynos 2400 chipset with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage capacity. While the Z Flip 7 offers 12GB of RAM, the processor remains the same, bringing the performance of the two quite close. The Flip FE comes with a 6.7-inch AMOLED 2X internal display and a relatively smaller outer screen that is not as interactive as the Flip 7.
The cover display is the same as the Galaxy Z Flip 6, standing at 3.4-inch Super AMOLED. Although it may look like a step down, it is most likely to bring down the component cost and maintain the price. Nonetheless, a full-cover screen is a new step for the Z Flip FE model, given how it has been kept exclusive to the premium tier. The battery capacity is also relatively smaller, measuring at 4,000mAh, but the charging support at 25W is extended to the device.
The Galaxy Z Flip FE comes with a dual-camera layout and features a 50MP primary sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor. Similar to the expectations laid out earlier, the model does not come with a telephoto lens. The FE model is available in two color options; Black and White and is priced at $899. The new Flip 7 FE is available for pre-order through the company's official website.
