Samsung is taking an aggressive approach this year and is determined to introduce innovations and get back in the game. While users are hooked on the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 and the upgrades it would bring about, it is the AI capabilities that are hyped up to be in the limelight and that would set the tech giant apart from Apple. Samsung is not only working on its flagship phones but is also committed to changing its approach to foldable by including its first-ever tri-fold phone. Although the foldable market is not growing as rapidly as it was in 2024, the South Korean tech giant is determined to establish itself in the category it pioneered and is reportedly working on launching four foldable devices in 2025.

Previous reports have suggested that the tech giant is bringing a thinner and more compact Fold 7 that may not include the S pen digitizer. If this stands true, the S Pen would need to be charged separately. While users are also looking forward to the budget-friendly foldable that the company promises would offer significant improvements, it is Samsung's first-ever tri-fold phone that has us hooked on the offering and how the company would do in this category.
Although Huawei took the lead by pioneering in the category and launching the world's first tri-fold smartphone, Mate XT, last year, with Samsung stepping up its game, things in the foldable industry could stir up. The new foldable device is said to have a larger display than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and would be able to do so by incorporating a second hinge to the device. When unfolded, it is said that the device would sit between 9.9 and 10 inches, which again is a significant increase in comparison to the Fold 6.
The tri-fold is expected to be released in the third quarter of 2025 alongside other foldables. However, Samsung has set a lower production target for the new model, around 200,000 units for the year. This could indicate that the company is using a careful approach and seeing how the device will do in the market. Nonetheless, the tri-fold foldable is a fresh move by the company that might revive its foldable category and help the South Korean tech giant step up its game.
