Samsung Posts A Shocking Miss On Revenue For Q2 2026 At A Time When Investors Were Positioned For A Pristine Print

Samsung's semiconductor head says that foundry profitability is being hindered by performance-based bonuses

With a Samsung executive already having stunned the world at large by declaring that the South Korean tech giant's profits in 2026 would eclipse the cumulative profits it earned over the past 40 years, it was largely a fait accompli that Samsung's provisional results for the second quarter of 2026 would be shockingly good. And, as the fates would have it, Samsung has just disappointed the market by a long shot on its revenue metric.

Samsung has just guided to $111.76 billion in revenue and $58.43 billion in operating profit for the second quarter of 2026

Samsung has now released key guidance for its Q2 2026 earnings disclosure, posting a mixed result.

As such, Samsung now expects its total sales for the second quarter of 2026 to amount to 171 trillion won ($111.76 billion) vs. the consensus estimate of 172.181 trillion won. This is a material breach of expectations at a time when the market was positioned for a pristine print.

Even so, Samsung expects to report 89.4 trillion won ($58.43 billion) in operating profit for Q2 2026 vs. a consensus estimate of $55.6 billion.

Do note that Samsung had reported 116.81 trillion won in revenue and 57.2 trillion won in operating profit in Q1 2026.

While Samsung's semiconductor-focused DS division is reaping the dividends from the rip-roaring demand for memory resources, the situation, however, is downright gloomy for its mobile segment, which is now expected to report an operating loss of around 1 trillion won or $653 million.

Meanwhile, as we noted earlier this week, Kim Yong-kwan, the President and Head of Business Strategy at Samsung Electronics’ Device Solutions (DS) division, reportedly declared at a town hall meeting on July 03 that the division would meet the market's expectations vis-à-vis its operating profit for this year. Do note that analysts currently expect Samsung to report an annual operating profit of around 300 trillion won or ~$200 billion

Also, Samsung is currently negotiating with commodity DRAM customers with an express goal of hiking its prices by up to 20 percent quarter-over-quarter in Q3.

This comes as Samsung raised its commodity DRAM prices by 90 percent in Q1 2026 over the reference prices for Q4 2025, and then implemented another sequential price hike of between 50 and 60 percent in Q2.
